First of all, I’m so exited to be getting back to blogging… I’ve taken a short(er) hiatus from it. Most of that hiatus was unintentional and out of my control (read: “forced”) & some it it was my call. Nonetheless, I wanted to bring it back to basics and say thanks for reading, and to refresh you on what exactly this site is for, and who I hope it helps! Thanks for reading & I hope you enjoy!
What is Financial Gusto and why do you need to live with it?
Ever meet someone who just seems to be living life to its fullest? They don’t necessarily have it all. There’s just something about them… You meet them, and you just know. The way they act. Their zest for life. You may not know exactly what it is about them, but whatever it is, you know you want it!
You’ve probably met someone that embodies the opposite. I won’t go into detail about what that life looks like… You just know you don’t want THAT.
I would say, you want some Gusto in your life.
So, what exactly is FinancialGusto.com and what does living with Financial Gusto mean?
Let me explain.
Living with Financial Gusto means living life on your terms, financially free, and full of adventure
… whatever ‘your terms,’ and ‘adventure’ means to you. The word, ‘Gusto’ means to have vigor, and passion, or to do something with great artistic care.
Financial Gusto then, is living a life with vigor, passion and adventure, on your terms and financially free. Meaning, you’re able to enjoy life to the fullest because you don’t have financial worries dragging you down. You know you’ve got the finances locked down so you’re free to go live your life to it’s fullest.
Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?!
Through this blog, and from experience, I can teach you how to to be financially free, and show you countless examples of people living that way… BUT, it’s up to you to define what that means in YOUR life. I’ll show you people who have merged financial freedom with an adventurous life. The cool part is that you get to define an adventurous life and what that means to you.
Living with Financial Gusto means merging financially wise decisions with a life lived on fire. Typically, a financially free life looks like the following:
- A calling
- Stress-free (okay, maybe not stress-free, but less than a debt-laden life!)
- The list goes on and on…
These are all characteristics that I’ve seen and experienced myself in living a financially free life, full of Gusto.
This site itself, FinancialGusto.com, was created for a few of reasons.
- I’ve always loved writing. At one point in my life I actually wanted to be a journalist for a travel magazine. Like Conde Nast… yeah, I wanted to be that guy on some tropical location, shooting amazing pictures and writing stories about the location… Combine that love of travel, adventure and writing, with my love for personal finance, investing, & helping people live fuller lives and viola! FinancialGusto.com is born.
- I hope to inspire others to live their version of financial freedom, full of adventure and experiences that (hopefully) don’t break the bank and that have a positive impact on our world. My family and I love being active and adventurous. If I can inspire you to be adventurous, I have a feeling that inspiration will go both ways.
- To share what I’ve learned working as a financial planner. I’ve met with hundreds, maybe thousands, of people in a financial planning environment. Some did it right… others didn’t. I want to share what I’ve seen work for other people and what I study (did I mention that I love this stuff!?)
This blog will likely relate to millennials and Gen X’ers… simply because I am a millennial. However, I’ve met with LOTS of clients around retirement planning, and will share what I’ve learned and studied there too. I’ve met plenty of pre-retirees and retirees who know a thing or two about being financially free and living life on their terms.
What you may find, is that just because one post, video or other piece of content is aimed at a specific group, that doesn’t mean you can’t learn a thing or two from it. Take what you need… leave the rest.
Sharing my journey:
My family and I live a very active lifestyle, and we don’t spend thousands and thousands of dollars doing it.
Don’t get me wrong: we definitely spend money on experiences, and sometimes ‘things.’ We value experiences more than things, and we budget for them. FinancialGusto.com is about me sharing my journey with you and perhaps inspiring you to take action. We don’t have everything figured out… far from it. But that’s the beauty of it. It’s a journey.
Pivotal moments in time:
Throughout my career, I’ve encountered people at pretty pivotal moments in their lives. I meet them at a time when they could either decide to plan ahead and live life on their terms, and I’ve met people who could have planned ahead, but chose not to, and they regret every moment of it. I want to avoid regret, and help you avoid it to.
Millennials & Gen X’ers who have inherited money
Maybe you haven’t heard, but it has been estimated that $30 TRILLION dollars will be changing hands, from one generation to another, over the next 20-30 years! Talk about pivotal moments in time.
‘Younger people’ between 25 and 45 who have inherited money, are squarely in that category of people at a pivotal moment in life. FinancialGusto.com was created with you in mind. Maybe you’ve inherited money and you’re active, adventurous, want to make an impact in your world, and you’re not sure where to start. Stay tuned… More to come, especially for you. You have an amazing opportunity… don’t waste it.
There’s so much good that can be done, yet so much is wasted.
The truth is, whether you’ve inherited money or not, we all have an opportunity to do well for ourselves AND do well for others!
I hope you become and stay inspired to live this mantra.
To me, THAT is living with Financial Gusto.
What else will I cover on this site?
No-nonsense, common-sense investing
Can I be blunt?
It’s amazing to me how much “crap” is out there, when it comes to investing advice. It seems that everyone has their hand in the pot, and has an ulterior motive. They do, and they do. Big money “talks” and the investing world is rampant with “behind the curtain” deals that YOU, the consumer, know nothing about. It’s difficult enough to navigate the opinionated and convoluted world of investing for a professional, let alone the general public. Exorbitant fund fees, referral fees, undisclosed expenses, active vs. passive, and the list goes on and on…
I want to shed light on all of this.
Financial Gusto means understanding what you’re investing in and knowing that you can say this:
“I’m doing the BEST I possibly can with what I have.”
If you don’t know what you’re invested in, you can’t answer that question above. Same, if you don’t know what ALL your costs are, or if any “behind the curtain” deals exist.
I hope to shed some light on this, and help you understand what you have, why you have it, and how to tell if it’s right for YOU!
One last thing:
Have you heard of this? Essentially, Lifestyle Design is the concept of finding a way to earn a living that enables you to do what you love, when and where you want to, with the people you want to.
Here I want to introduce you to some people who have figured Lifestyle Design out. I will share ideas that may help you on your journey. And provide some inspiration so that if you feel compelled to go down this path, you’ll have the resources and motivation to do it.
In all, what I want you to take from this, is that Financial Gusto is a way of life.
Living with Financial Gusto means to PURSUE your version of living. So going back to the title of this post and why do I think you need to live with it? WHY WOULDN’T YOU!?!? If an amazing life is out there, just waiting for you, you owe it to yourself to go out there and get it!
I personally don’t have everything (maybe anything) figured out. This is just as much about me sharing my journey with you, as it is about you inspiration and helping. Don’t get me wrong, it’s also a way for me to just itch my creative side through writing & creating 🙂 I do hope my journey inspires, and helps, just as it has helped others. But more than anything, FinancialGusto is about inspiring ACTION. Inspiration is nothing without acting on it. This blog will hopefully inspire you, drive action, and provide no-nonsense financial advice that will actually help you. That’s it. That’s Financial Gusto.
I hope you’ll continue to join me on this journey and I hope one day you share YOUR version of Financial Gusto. You never know how your story may positively impact someone else’s life.
